3:30 a.m. Wake up time!

November 2, 2011

Last night was another night of the whole family being up. My four month old was up at 2:08 to feed and my three year old was up at 3:33. She ended up being wide awake so my husband and I stayed up for a couple of hours with her. Needless to say, it was a rushed morning when he snoozed through the alarm and we had to get our three year old up and out the door. I am just so grateful that I am on maternity leave right now because I can’t count the number of times that I would have had to get up and teach after being up breastfeeding several times or just up because my son is not a sleeper. I end up complaining a lot on Facebook about my lack of sleep which I am sure has cost me a lot of Facebook friends. However, it is amazing how having a baby and toddler who is not a good sleeper changes your world. Usually my four month old is a relatively good sleeper and only gets up about once a night to feed. The difference is amazing! I feel like a human! I assume this is what it is like for many people who have babies! I don’t think there is any way that I can describe the battle we have had with our son over sleep, but we have persevered and it is getting much better and I would not change a thing because it makes us stronger and him strong. (okay maybe I would change a few thing….swaddling, feeding in the dark etc.- lesson learned the second time around!) I think a lot is temperament though and experience at birth- our son was born with the cord around his neck and severely jaundiced so my big plans of routine changed to feed, feed, feed to flush out his system. My kids are also really big and eat a lot so no routine here, just on demand, won’t take a bottle, I can’t count the number of feeds per day feeds! Hopefully it will fend off those allergies. I won’t ever regret breastfeeding, but it is exhausting! Worth it in the end for my precious angels!
